The Ghana YMCA is proud to announce that Sesime, a film directed by Ghana YMCA film project beneficiary and trainer Eunice Dake, has been officially selected for screening at the 2026 Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF).
Eunice’s journey reflects the lasting impact of the Ghana YMCA’s investment in young filmmakers. Having started as a beneficiary of the film project, she has developed her skills and risen to become a trainer, supporting other emerging creatives to explore filmmaking and use storytelling to address important social issues.
Funded by YWCA-YMCA Sweden, Sesime tells the story of an ex-convict who served time for murder and is released through a presidential pardon. Hoping to rebuild his life, he must confront the judgment of his community and overcome the inner struggles that constantly remind him of his past.
The film explores the challenges ex-convicts face when reintegrating into their families and communities. It also encourages society to become more supportive, understanding and less judgmental towards people seeking a second chance.
Sesime has been selected under the Ghanaian Showcase (Odehyeɛ) category and will be screened at the following times:
- 24 September 2026: 5:00 p.m.–5:48 p.m., Cinema A
- 27 September 2026: 4:54 p.m.–5:42 p.m., Cinema A
The 2026 Black Star International Film Festival will take place from 24–27 September 2026 at the Golden Eagle Cinemas in Kumasi.
