As part of activities marking the 2nd National Youth Conference, the Ghana YMCA, on 5th September 2025, made a donation to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, reaffirming its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting the wellbeing of all people.
The donation reflects the Ghana YMCA’s commitment to the World YMCA Vision 2030 pillar of Community Wellbeing, which focuses on building healthy, inclusive, resilient, and supportive communities where every person is valued and cared for. Through this gesture, the Ghana YMCA demonstrated its belief that mental health, dignity, and social support are essential to the wellbeing of individuals and communities.
The Accra Psychiatric Hospital plays a vital role in providing care, treatment, and rehabilitation for persons living with mental health conditions. By extending support to the hospital, the Ghana YMCA sought to show compassion, solidarity, and practical care for patients, while also encouraging young people to become active contributors to community development.
This initiative also highlights the importance of reducing stigma around mental health and promoting a society where vulnerable persons are treated with dignity, respect, and love. It served as a reminder that community wellbeing is not only about physical health, but also about emotional, mental, and social support.
The Ghana YMCA remains committed to using its platforms, programmes, and youth-led initiatives to promote care, inclusion, and social responsibility. As a youth-focused movement, Ghana YMCA will continue to inspire young people to serve their communities and contribute to building a healthier and more compassionate society.
Together, let us continue to build communities where everyone is supported, included, and given the dignity they deserve.
