Sensitizing Young People on the dangers of illicit drug use

Make Health Your “New High” in Life Not Drugs

The Ghana YMCA collaborates with the Narcotics Control Board to reach out to five hundred (500) young people in the Eastern region of Ghana. The schools engaged include Presbyterian, Catholic, Salvation Army and Methodist schools in Asiakwa. YMCA promises to engage more young people including in school and out of school youth in the region and sensitive them on the dangers of illicit drug use.
The Ghana YMCA promises to capitalize on the expertise of the Narcotics Control Board to sensitize the country’s youth on the dangers of substance abuse.

 

Sensitizing Young People at Abuakwa State College on the dangers of illicit drug use

The Ghana YMCA and the Narcotics Control Board were  sensitizing an estimated number of 1000 students on illicit drug use in Abuakwa State College on 4th of July 2019.

Using graphical images, the students are informed about the effects of drug abuse on the central nervous system. The experts from NACOB have cautioned the students to stay away from bad friendship and associations that could lead them into illicit drug use. Miss Linda from NACOB further cautions the youth on the cancerous effect of illicit drug use and advises them to stay away from it. ” One day, we will select some of you to our rehabilitation centers and you will see how illicit drug use has destroyed lives ”
Debunking some of the misconceptions on illicit drug use such as heroine,

methamphetamine, cocaine etc, the students are cautioned to stay away from illicit drug use and concentrate on their studies. The students have also been informed on some of the tricks employed by drug peddlers and are cautioned to be cautious especially when traveling outside the shores of Ghana.
The Ghana YMCA promises to strengthen its partnership with the Narcotics Control Board to engage with different categories of young people across all the 16 regions in Ghana.

 

About 1000 young people in Kyebi, the home of Ghana’s President, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, pledge to stay away from illicit drug use.
This commitment emerged as a result of the Ghana YMCA and the Narcotics Control Board’s collaboration to sensitize the youth against illicit drug use in the Eastern region of Ghana. This event has taken place on 3rd of July 2019.
